After a hiatus of six months, the JASNA Central California Region officially got underway! On Saturday, January 6th we had an organization meeting to go over JASNA membership, to confirm our nominated committee members, and to brainstorm ideas and preferences for our 2018 discussions and events.
We expected about a dozen people to attend. So when 21 people showed up and we kept having to widen the circle of tables, we hardly knew what to do with ourselves. Ten of the attendees were also new to JASNA and so got the low-down on all of the benefits of being a member and the fun we have at our regular gatherings throughout the year.
Members spoke of how they enjoyed our “Regency World” talks during our meetings, where we highlight some aspect of the world surrounding Austen’s novels. Others expressed an interest in lectures and social events. About 40% of the attendees participate in historical costuming events and expressed an interest in attending events where costuming is welcome.
Immediately after the brainstorming session and tea-time mixer, the executive committee sat down to create a 2018 calendar, which you can find here!
We’re thrilled to have such a great start to the year, and with such enthusiastic members who have a diverse range of interests.
Here’s to a terrific 2018 with Jane Austen (and friends)!
